24 Things You Should Know Before Start Blogging

Over the years I receive more and more questions from people before they start blogging. How to develop your blog? How can I make money fast? How fast can you earn with a blog? And others.

I have collected some ideas in my experience related to how to develop a blog. It’s not a guide, but rather some problems that I faced with time. Tips for bloggers, things to do and things to avoid:

24 Things You Should Know Before Start Blogging

1. Content is more important than design.

Having a fancy blog is not enough, you have to come with useful, interesting, attractive content.

2. How often do you write?

Make a schedule and stick to it (should be at least 2 times a week). Better write two articles per week to hang onto than to write one every day for 10 days, then disappear in the next two months. readers will notice your disappearance.

3. Do not ask for backlinks from other bloggers if you have not published anything on the site.

This is bothering me too when I receive such requests. I recommend you ask any links from blogs that are at a similar level to you. Although I think the best would be to focus on writing content.

write content you love4. Write content that you would love to read.

I know it sounds cliche, but if you don’t like what you write, why would others?

5. Be patient

Very patient! Lately, I’ve read articles of people pretending they reached hundreds of thousands of views in the early days of blogging. I know for a newbie blogger can be frustrating. The problem is not to have traffic, but to keep them engaged in the long run.

6. Engage with the readers

Bring value to your blog readers. Interact with them as often as possible. Let them answer additional explanations or comments, ask them when you can not decide alone to a certain problem.

7. Support the initiative of others

Bloggers make many interesting projects, when they do it’s a good time to get involved and make your presence visible. In addition, when you will make a project those you supported may support you.

8. Provide free services, but paid too

This is related to point 7, It’s good to give from time to time support or services for free, but you have to be somehow paid for you work too. It’s your decision when you offer something for free and when you ask for money, but the idea is to have something to offer.

9. Don’t rely on gift traffic

Even if another blogger or influencer helps, don’t think your blog will grow from this.

I repeat: The only way to build a blog is to write awesome content, and trying to do this better every day!

If someone didn’t subscribe to your e-mail newsletter, don’t send them e-mails with your articles. I tell you this is a very bad idea!

11. Learn to write a title

In a reasonably attractive way.

12. Help other bloggers and influencers

Give a share to the articles you enjoy, give a like, tweet or comment.

Slowly you will be noticed, be careful not to pass the other side, do not become exaggerated.

13. Don’t start 5 blogs in the same time

Start one, choose a name that makes sense and build it. When big enough, you can start another project. Running 5 blogs simultaneous is not easy. You’ll be broken in too many pieces and you risk doing nothing well.

14. Get in touch with other bloggers

It’s called networking. See what events are they attending an go there, create connections with them. Target especially those in your niche.

15. Respect your readers

If you made a promise, keep it. At least announce them you didn’t succeed to keep your promise. In the end, this is a real business, so act accordingly.

16. Ignore trolls, and don’t be one

Maybe some people are trying to constructive criticism but have not mastered the art of diplomacy, but others are simply malicious. Do NOT be that person, karma’s a bitch!

17. Learn from mistakes, and to move on

It is impossible not to make mistakes, especially when you’re at beginning. Learn from these mistakes, try not to repeat them, try to learn something from them. Some mistakes will cost you much, there are mistakes that can not be repaired. If you learned something from it, then move on, you’ve already taken a step in your personal development.

18. Invest in your blog

At the beginning only time and energy, when you afford, some money too.

19. Make a SEO Strategy

Get some inspiration from Here or simply search on Google for SEO Strategies.

20. Work daily on your blog

It’s not necessary to write articles daily, there are other tasks you can care of.

21. Don’t let your blog just a collection of separate articles. Put links between your articles where possible.

Put links to your articles where is possible.

22. Don’t rely on living from blogs income.

This will not happen fast, so make sure you have some source of income. You can make money from blogging, but it takes time.

23. Be yourself

Each of us is different. We are unique and that makes us see the world with different eyes. Find what you represent and be yourself; this way, you have only to win. The image on the blog and your picture of reality can be perceived differently, but it is totally wrong to try to convey different messages of what you feel, what you believe. Finally, you will not even know who you really are. It’s not the best way to evolve.

Bottom line

Blogging means people, communication, debate, information and utterance-response. Apart from a few special situations, what comes out of this area, will not become successful (as most of us understand it).

Why? Because when you have a blog … you must also challenge people. You have to write so as to wake up a feeling to the reader, no matter how small.

Patience and engagement are two things that not everyone has. I’ve had several blogs in my lifetime and I never learned either of those things. I think that I’m still learning.
